Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development will host the 2020 Second Language Research Forum—one of the premier conferences on second language acquisition in North America—virtually Oct. 23–25.
Susan Barone, director of the English Language Center and senior lecturer in Peabody College’s Department of Teaching and Learning, was instrumental in bringing this conference to Vanderbilt.
“The SLRF brings together researchers in second language acquisition from around the world,” she said. “The event is a valuable opportunity for established scholars and graduate students to network and share their research from a wide variety of methods, contexts and countries.” she notes. Barone and Lisa Pray, professor of the practice in the Department of Teaching and Learning, are the primary faculty advisers for the student-led forum.
This year, there will be six informative and engaging workshops on a variety of topics related to second language research and more broadly to academia throughout the conference. Topics include language analysis methods, using language corpora for second language acquisition teaching and research, getting published in academia, and more.
“As host of this year’s forum, Vanderbilt will provide an opportunity for scholars to learn from the diverse network of second language acquisition researchers while fostering critical dialogue among disciplines,” noted Vanessa Beasley, vice provost for academic affairs and dean of residential faculty.
Participants can register for this year’s forum here until Oct. 10. Registration includes access to plenary speaker events, conference sessions and virtual workshops.
