In response to feedback from the campus community about the desire for more commute options and flexibility when parking, the university is piloting a new daily parking option for up to 1,400 faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate and professional students.
Those who express interest in, and are selected for, the program will have access to the Terrace Place, Wesley Place and Sony garages and will pay to park only on the days they drive to campus. The daily parking rate for this program will be $3.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to offer the Vanderbilt community a sustainable, flexible and equitable transportation and parking program,” said Erin Hafkenschiel, executive director of mobility at Vanderbilt. “We developed this pilot program based on feedback from the campus community about needing additional commuting and parking options.”
Vanderbilt faculty who want to participate in the daily parking program, which starts September 1, must express their interest by completing this form prior to August 21. Those selected for the program will be notified via email by August 28. Selections will be made on a rolling basis after August 21 until all 1,400 spaces are full. Those not selected for the daily parking program (due to capacity constraints) can purchase $5 per day hangtags from Parking Services and will be placed on a waiting list and notified if more daily parking spots become available. They may also choose to purchase an annual permit from Parking Services.
Parking events will automatically be logged in the MoveVU Commute Hub tool when using a Vanderbilt ID card to access once of the three garages. For faculty, parking charges will be debited consistent with current parking payroll deductions: monthly employees – reflected on monthly check; weekly and biweekly employees – reflected on second check.
The daily parking program is an effort of MoveVU, the mobility and transportation strategic plan under FutureVU, the university’s initiative to enhance the places on campus where community members live, work and learn. Annual Parking Permit Information
The Parking Services Office will continue to offer annual parking permits for the 2020-2021 academic year. Current parking permits expire on August 31. Registration for new permits will open on Monday, August 17. This year, individuals with annual permits will be able to park in any non-reserved parking space on campus (i.e. no assigned parking zones).
Faculty may log in online with their VUnetID and password to register or renew a vehicle. You must have the following information available:
- License plate number
- State of vehicle registration
- Vehicle make, model, year and color
- A valid email address
Rates for the academic year are based on the salary bands outlined below. A marginal parking rate increase for 2020-2021 will ensure that Vanderbilt’s parking program remains self-sufficient and operating costs are covered.

As you consider parking permit options, please do so in accordance with Return to Campus guidelines. If you drive to and park on campus, you will be required to have a parking permit. Violations are subject to fines and towing.
