Managing difficult conversations, manager responsibilities for compliance topics of new HR workshops

Vanderbilt Human Resources is launching two new virtual workshops hosted by Employee Learning and Engagement as the university continues to add training and resources for managers and leaders.

Managing Difficult Conversations (for Leaders)

This one-hour presentation will provide information, skills and guided practice to assist leaders in conducting difficult conversations. How to prepare for and have the conversation while listening and learning from the person you’re speaking with will be discussed

  • Tuesday, Sept. 1 – 2–3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16 – 9–10 a.m.

The sessions will be delivered online via Zoom and facilitated by licensed professional counselor Stephanie Dean, assistant manager of Work/Life Connections–EAP.

Compliance Fundamentals Module 3: Manager Responsibilities at Vanderbilt

  • Thursday, Sept. 3 – 8:30 a.m. to noon

This workshop is intended for leaders of staff. The topics to be discussed include:

  • appearance of impairment
  • wages and hours
  • independent contractors
  • labor relations
  • protection of minors
  • conflict of interest

Facilitators will include Cleo Rucker, director, HR Consulting, Employee and Labor Relations; Dawn Riddle, director, Protection of Minors; and Alison Cooper, director, Conflict of Interest.

Please note that you do not have to complete Modules 1–3 in sequence. New sessions of Modules 1 and 2 are currently being scheduled for the fall and enrollment will open soon.
