Virtual opportunities, current events focus of Immersion Vanderbilt fall programming

The Office of Immersion Resources announces Immersion: 2020, a series of fall programs designed to explore student options for virtual and in-person Immersion Vanderbilt projects this academic year.

Immersion Vanderbilt: Community Spotlight Zoom webinar - Siloam HealthStarting on Thursday, July 30, and lasting through mid-November, Immersion: 2020—a series of webinars, informal Zoom drop-in opportunities, fairs and showcases—will bring Immersion to students wherever they are in the world. Attendees will hear from alumni, faculty, staff and their peers about Immersion experiences and opportunities and will learn more about the possibilities for unique and timely projects. The goal of Immersion: 2020 is to connect students around the world with Immersion ideas online, on campus and in Nashville that interest and excite them.

“Students considering topics for Immersion Vanderbilt plan proposals are going to find many innovative ideas that have recently emerged,” said Carolyn Floyd, director of the Office of Immersion Resources. “As they find their way back to campus and to classes, the OIR is poised to help facilitate the discovery and creation of amazing Immersion ideas and plans.”

Immersion: 2020 kicks off with the first of a two-part series co-hosted with the Office of Active Citizenship and Service. Community Spotlight: Siloam features Nashville-based Siloam Health, which provides health care services to Nashville’s uninsured, underserved and culturally marginalized. In addition to this series, Immersion: 2020 offerings include the Vanderbilt Undergraduate Research Fair on Thursday, Oct. 8 (student registration to open soon). This event will be completely virtual in fall 2020. Also planned are young alumni highlight talks about experiential learning that changed their futures, discussion forums about recently created Immersion opportunities that incorporate current events, and an opportunity to participate in the inaugural Undergraduate Creative Expression Showcase in November.

A full schedule of events and Zoom links will be available on the Immersion portal. In addition to these resources, the Immersion website will be updated continuously with relevant program information.
