Summer webinar series to discuss federal funding opportunities for faculty

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research will host four webinars this summer to help Vanderbilt faculty learn about funding opportunities from a variety of federal agencies. All four webinars will be broadcast remotely. Please register for each below.

The webinars will be presented by Lewis-Burke Associates LLC, a leading government relations firm specializing in advocating for the public policy interests of institutions of higher education and other research and education organizations. Lewis-Burke is a resource to faculty to help expand their access to federal funding by providing advice on funding trends, identifying new funding opportunities, and discussing barriers and advice to overcome funding challenges.

Federal Funding for Health Disparities Research

Tuesday, July 14 • 11 a.m.–noon          

Hear about existing and emerging funding opportunities to conduct research on health disparities. Topics will include Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agency priorities and opportunities in addition to the broader opportunities for issues such as mental health, public health and social and behavioral sciences.

COVID-19 Federal Funding Opportunities and Guidance

Thursday, July 30 • 1–2 p.m.    

This webinar will cover the spectrum of available funding opportunities as the federal research enterprise looks to tackle COVID-19 and its effects. There also will be information on the changes, flexibility and other guidance that have been implemented to help support the research community and the outlook for these policies going forward.

Department of Defense 101

Wednesday, Aug. 12 • 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.  

Learn how the Department of Defense (DOD) funds science and technology research and development. The webinar will introduce DOD research and development organizations, funding agencies, programs, strategies for interacting with the DOD agencies, advise on how to successfully compete for DOD research funds, and provide support for future engagement.

Federal Funding for Early Career Faculty

Tuesday, Sept. 22 • 10:30–11:30 a.m.

Early career faculty will learn about key research agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and Department of Defense; strategies for engaging with program managers at each; and how to tailor your research to meet the needs of each agency. There also will be opportunities to ask general questions and receive information on how to connect with Lewis-Burke for one-on-one guidance.
