HR announces new workshops focusing on remote work, employee engagement

Vanderbilt Human Resources will launch three new virtual workshops hosted by Employee Learning and Engagement this month as the university continues to add training and resources for employees and leaders who are working remotely.

Working Remotely: Making it Work

  • Tuesday, Aug. 11 – 2–3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 12 – 4–5 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 20 – 11 a.m.–noon
  • Friday, Aug. 21 – 1–2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 25 – 2–3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 26 – 1–2 p.m.
  • Open to all employees

Working remotely is part of the new normal at Vanderbilt and can present great opportunities for employees and the university. However, issues including time management problems and digital miscommunication may arise while working remotely.

By the end of this one-hour workshop, you will learn how to set up your home office for success, balance the pros and cons of remote work, know “the seven best practices” when working remotely and discover tools and resources to better manage well-being challenges.

Employee Engagement and Recognition for Leaders

  • Thursday, Aug. 13 – 2–3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 25 – 10–11 a.m.
  • Open to leaders

Leaders have the greatest impact on employees’ engagement and recognition. They have a unique opportunity to enable success, increase performance and create a thriving team of engaged employees. Join us in this workshop and learn new strategies to create a more engaging workplace for your team. By the end of this one-hour workshop, you will recognize the “three types of employees,” learn the “12 elements of engagement,” understand employees’ needs and motivators, be familiar with Vanderbilt’s engagement and recognition programs, and develop an engagement and recognition action plan for your team.

Leading Remote Teams Effectively

  • Tuesday, Aug. 18 – 2–3 p.m.
  • Open to leaders

Working remotely is part of the new normal at Vanderbilt, presenting some unique challenges for leaders. Strong leadership inspires teams to function at their best. Gain tips for increasing trust, fostering deeper relationships and leading your team to success in the remote work environment. By the end of this one-hour workshop, you will understand the physical and mental challenges, learn “the five best practices” for leading remotely, discover tools and techniques for creating great working relationships, and develop an action plan for strengthening your team.
