The ANCHOR DOWN. STEP UP. campaign launches today as Vanderbilt University continues to take action to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prepare for the start of the fall semester.
The campaign serves as just one of the ways the university will inform members of its community about individual responsibilities surrounding health and safety while on and off campus and inspire all to play a role in helping protect one another.
It’s up to each of us to help protect our community. Anchor Down. Step Up. Together, we can slow the spread of COVID-19.
The campaign features actions that VU community members can take to help slow the spread of COVID-19. These actions include:
- Anchor Down, Mask Up: Wear a face mask/covering in public settings.
- Anchor Down, Back Up: Maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others.
- Anchor Down, Wash Up: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Anchor Down, Check Up: Monitor yourself daily for COVID-19 symptoms.
The campaign will be rolled out on the university’s website and social media accounts, through posters and flyers across campus, through videos and photos featuring members of the Vanderbilt community and more.

- Jordyn Cambridge, undergraduate student in human and organizational development, women’s basketball team member
- Daniel Diermeier, chancellor
- Melissa Gresalfi, dean of The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons and professor of mathematics education and learning sciences and learning environment design
- Sarah Igo, Andrew Jackson Chair in American History and faculty director of E. Bronson Ingram College
- Pranav Karve, research assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering
- David Koester, research engineer in the LASIR Lab
- Candice Storey Lee, vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs and athletic director
- Sgt. Shaneithia Lewis and K-9 Officer Jack, Vanderbilt University Police Department
- Elizabeth Meadows, associate director of the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities and faculty head of East House
- Rosevelt Noble, assistant dean of residential colleges and director of the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center
- Jordan Rogers, director of culinary operations for Campus Dining
- Garrett Thorne, staff engineer in the LASIR Lab
- Anna Wolfe, research engineer
