Beware of widespread phishing scam

VUIT is actively responding to an intense phishing campaign that started on Thursday, March 5. Several VU accounts have already been compromised. VUIT has identified over 50,000 emails that were sent to VU and VUMC accounts with a subject line and body similar to the following:

Hello,
There’s an ongoing survey recruitment exercise for part-time shoppers. You’re paid to shop and evaluate stores and businesses around you. You get to make up to $300 weekly. Note: This job can be very exciting, For those who love to shop it’s the perfect job that offers fun assignments and flexible schedules. Your contribution will bring improvement to customer services within your area.

The intent of such phishing emails is to collect information (first name, last name, full address, age, email, mobile number, occupation) about recipients. Attackers typically use this information to gain access to banking and other services the recipient might use.

Please DO NOT open the link in the email or a link in any other email if you are unsure of its validity or security. If you receive an email similar to the one above, delete the email immediately.
