Programs for Talented Youth announces summer 2020 courses

Programs for Talented Youth (PTY) provides advanced learners in grades K-12 the opportunity to take accelerated courses in a creative, supportive and rigorous environment on the Vanderbilt University campus. Throughout the year, PTY offers fast-paced, advanced coursework taught by Vanderbilt faculty, scholars and content experts for academically talented and motivated students. During the summer, students can participate in one of the following PTY programs depending on their age.

Summer Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young (SAVY) is a weekday program for qualifying gifted students in rising first through sixth grades. Six different one-week sessions are available. Admitted students participate in one SAVY course per session and can enroll in one or more sessions across the summer. From neuroscience to mythology to coding and robotics, SAVY is bound to have a class that fits your gifted child’s interests. The application priority window for Summer SAVY 2020 opens Jan. 8 at noon and closes on Jan. 15 at noon.

Career Connections at SAVY is a day program within SAVY specifically designed for rising seventh- grade students. Three different one-week sessions are available in July. Admitted students participate in one course per session and can enroll in one or multiple sessions. The application priority window for Summer SAVY 2020 opens Jan. 8 at noon and closes on Jan. 15 at noon.

Vanderbilt Summer Academy (VSA) is a residential program for qualifying gifted students in rising seventh through 12th grades. For one-, two- or three-week sessions, students at VSA experience life on a college campus as they engage in accelerated coursework in an area of interest and talent while living in a vibrant social community of intellectual peers from across the globe. Courses vary by session/grade level. Discover emerging fields in chemistry such as molecular gastronomy and electrochemistry; explore potential career paths in Med School 101 and Dental School 101; dive deep into hot topic issues in Moral Leadership and Policy Analysis or engage critical topics in The Philosophy of Sport and Fashion Sustainability. There is sure to be a VSA course that sparks interest in your gifted student. The application priority window for VSA 2020 opens Jan. 6 at noon and closes on Jan. 20 at noon.
