The Nichols Humanitarian Fund, a program enabling Vanderbilt students to pursue humanitarian missions at home and across the globe, will open applications for 2020 awards on Nov. 4. Review of applications will begin Dec. 16.
Students interested in learning more about how to apply for these funds should attend the reception and open house on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the E. Bronson Ingram College Great Room.
During the event, Bill Purcell, former mayor of Nashville, will speak about making service a part of your life. In addition, 2019 award recipients will be honored and speak about their use of the funds to serve others. Also in attendance will be awardees from prior cohorts, as well as Edward C. Nichols Jr., JD ’70, and his wife, Janice Nichols. DYV and GME credit are available.
The Nichols Humanitarian Fund supports students in broadening their thinking about global humanitarian efforts through volunteering for domestic or international humanitarian service opportunities. Awards assist Vanderbilt students by paying for the expenses of their planned humanitarian activities. These activities are potential Immersion Vanderbilt experiences.
Students are encouraged to develop their own service opportunities in communities where they can work to address an area of need. In past years, students have served in communities all over the world, including Australia, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Uganda and Vietnam.
