Vanderbilt University and 18 other top universities have filed a joint amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court in support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The amici institutions note in the brief that “if permitted to enter into effect, the memorandum rescinding the DACA program will preclude the remarkable students enrolled at amici institutions from obtaining the full benefit of their time on our campuses. It would also undermine amici’s educational missions by threatening their ability to attract and educate the most talented young people.”
DACA allows some individuals brought into the country as undocumented children to be protected from near-term deportation and allows them to work lawfully and travel abroad.
Vanderbilt is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment that welcomes community members from around the globe. The university has previously voiced its opposition to rescinding the DACA program and continues to embrace students empowered by the program.
