October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and throughout the month Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) will be sharing tips and tricks for staying safe and secure online. This article focuses on cybersecurity while traveling.

Did you know you are at higher risk of becoming a cyber victim while traveling? Travelers tend to let their guard down or bypass secure practices for convenience. They are more likely to use unsecured public Wi-Fi or open attachments without consideration. This could allow cybercriminals to read files stored on devices, steal user IDs and passwords, and even launch other attacks. Reduce the likelihood that you will become a victim of a cyberattack by taking some basic steps to protect yourself and your data. A PDF with recommendations from VUIT for cybersecurity while traveling is available on the VUIT website in the Cybersecurity dropdown.
