Faculty, staff and students participated in PARK(ing) Day—an internationally recognized event that features parking spaces turned into “pocket parks”—on Sept. 20. This year’s park focused on transportation and sustainability efforts underway on campus.
The area in front of the Law School along 21st Avenue South was transformed into an outdoor space featuring hammocks, games, displays and giveaways. Members of the Division of Administration, including facilities, public safety and campus dining, other areas across the university, and student workers took lead roles in designing the space and constructing many of the features.
Additionally, attendees were able to preview Vanderbilt’s Walk & Roll Loop, a multimodal pathway envisioned to encircle the campus edge as part of the MoveVU transportation and mobility plan, to be released later this fall.
The initiative sought to bring more awareness to FutureVU, Vanderbilt’s holistic model of developing the spaces on campus as well as investing in initiatives that cultivate the people who live, work and learn in them. For more information, visit vu.edu/futurevu.
