The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's 2019 Science Day will showcase more than 100 posters submitted by undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research faculty, and research staff conducting research in labs or research programs of VKC members and investigators. Science Day will take place Tuesday, Sept. 17, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Vanderbilt University's Student Life Center.
In addition to the two traditional poster sessions, Science Day will also include a VKC Data Blitz, featuring four presentations by VKC Science Day Poster Competition presenters. Poster presenters had the option to compete for a $250 Warren Lambert Memorial Award when submitting their abstracts. Faculty judges will be assigned to review the competing posters during the poster sessions, and winners will be announced at the close of Science Day. There will also be raffle drawings for Science Day attendees who register to attend online before the Thursday, Sept. 12, RSVP deadline. NOTE: Accepted poster presenters do not need to register to attend.
Science Day agenda
Committee members are currently establising the day's agenda. Presenters will be allowed to hang their posters in the Commodore Ballroom as early as 10:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Commodore Ballroom. Science Day festivities will include two poster sessions, a keynote, and the Data Blitz. Presenting the Science Day keynote address will be Mark Wallace, Ph.D., Louise B. McGavock Endowed Chair;= and Professor of Hearing & Speech Sciences, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and Psychology, and Dean, Vanderbilt University Graduate School; Carissa Cascio, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences; and Tiffany Woynaroski, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Hearing & Speech Sciences. Wallace, Cascio, and Woynaroski will speak on "Translational Studies of Sensory Function in Autism: Emergent Properties of a Collaborative Model." Lunch will be provided, as well as a wine and cheese reception to close out the day's festivities. Information including a full itinerary is posted on the 2019 Science Day event page.

A Tradition With Innovation
The goals of the annual VKC Science Day are to promote “centeredness” by providing a scientific forum; to provide an opportunity to present significant research findings; and to encourage research collaboration.
The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center supports basic/molecular, applied, and clinical research and training. The VKC has more than 300 faculty researchers, staff, and affiliate members working together across disciplines to create basic and clinical scientific discoveries, to translate research into best practices, and to train the next generation of researchers and practitioners. The ultimate goal is to make positive differences in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
