AlertVU test scheduled for Sept. 17

Vanderbilt University Public Safety will conduct a test of the AlertVU emergency notification system on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m.

AlertVU rapidly sends messages to the Vanderbilt community in the event of an imminent threat or danger, such as a tornado forecasted to strike Vanderbilt or an active shooter on campus.

All Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in the system using their Vanderbilt email address.

Cell phone numbers provided by students to the university are automatically enrolled in the AlertVU database.

Faculty and staff can register other contact points—such as their cell/home phone, text messaging* or personal email account—to receive AlertVU messages when they are away from their Vanderbilt email accounts.

All persons are encouraged to update their emergency contact information at least annually or as needed. Students will be directed to the YES system. Faculty and staff members will be directed to Oracle. Instructions on how to update your information in YES or Oracle are available on the AlertVU website.

For more information or assistance, contact Jessamyn Davis.

*Users who opt to receive alerts via text message may be subject to charges from their service providers.
