Chancellor Search listening session for staff set for Aug. 23

Aug. 19, 2019, 11:12 AM

The Chancellor Search Advisory Committee will conduct a listening session on Friday, Aug. 23, to gather feedback from staff and answer questions about the search for Vanderbilt’s next leader. The event is scheduled from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Sarratt Cinema. All Vanderbilt staff members are invited to attend.

In addition, a weeklong series of feedback opportunities is planned for Aug. 26-30 in Sarratt Cinema. Refreshments will be provided. All members of the Vanderbilt community are invited to stop by and offer feedback on the Chancellor Search during these informal sessions scheduled for the following times:

  • Monday, Aug. 26: 8–9 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 27: 8–9 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 28: 3–4 p.m. and 7–8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 29: 3–4 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 30: noon–1 p.m.

In nearly 150 years, Vanderbilt has had only eight chancellors. The university is searching for its ninth chancellor, a leader who will set the priorities and tone of Vanderbilt for decades to come.

“Your input is critical. We have designed the search process to be expansive and inclusive—to involve as many perspectives as possible,” said Bruce R. Evans, chairman of the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust and chair of the Chancellor Search Committee.

The  Chancellor Search Advisory Committee, chaired by John Geer, dean of the College of Arts and Science and Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Political Science, comprises students, faculty, staff and alumni who will gather, synthesize and provide advice to the  Chancellor Search Committee  on the priorities the next chancellor should address, as well as discern the qualities that individual should possess.

The Advisory Committee’s work is already underway and will continue through mid-September, following which the committee will issue a public report of its findings.

In addition to the upcoming listening session and feedback opportunities, members of the Vanderbilt community are encouraged to share their feedback online at vu.edu/chancellor-search.
