Vanderbilt’s eighth chancellor, Nicholas S. Zeppos, will step down on Aug. 15 after serving the university for more than 11 years in the role. Under Zeppos’ leadership, Vanderbilt’s achievements and reputation have soared as the university committed to delivering a world-class education to all qualified students.

The university has become one of America’s leading and most innovative research universities during his tenure as chancellor, jumping to its highest-ever ranking of #14 on the U.S. News World and Report rankings. Zeppos launched Opportunity Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt’s pioneering financial aid program that eliminated loans from undergraduate financial aid packages and opened the doors of the university wider. He led the university through the complex restructuring of Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center into two separate entities.
