Office of Faculty Affairs appoints new director of faculty development

Jermaine Soto has been named director of faculty development in the Office of Faculty Affairs, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Tracey George has announced. Soto also will work closely with the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Office of Research to support their faculty development programs.

The creation of this new position was a priority for George. “Creating relevant and accessible faculty development programming for all faculty is essential to supporting and promoting faculty success,” George said. “Jermaine brings many strengths to this work, including expertise in professional development in the higher education setting and proven success as a leader of trainings and workshops. We are lucky to have him join our team.”

Soto holds an undergraduate degree in English from Cornell University and a master’s degree in Cultural Foundations of Education from Syracuse University. He is a candidate for the Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education at Syracuse. At Syracuse he was a lecturer, researcher and facilitator for the Intergroup Dialogue Program. He also served as a consultant for the New York State Migrant Education Program, where he developed a series of training modules on self-advocacy. Most recently, he was director of operations for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Vanderbilt.

Soto’s responsibilities as director of faculty development will include developing, facilitating and evaluating programs designed to provide faculty members at all stages of their careers with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed and flourish at Vanderbilt. He also will contribute to award processes within the Office of Faculty Affairs.
