A new book from New York Times national baseball writer and Vanderbilt alumnus Tyler Kepner, BA’97, traces the history of America’s pastime through the perspective of pitchers. Each chapter of K: A History of Baseball in Ten Pitches (2019, Doubleday) highlights a different pitch, from the blazing fastball to the fluttering knuckleball to the slippery spitball, and features colorful stories and fascinating insights from many of the best pitchers in baseball history, including Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan and Mariano Rivera.
