Vanderbilt IT will upgrade the telephone system on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 4 a.m.
The upgrade will take approximately one hour to complete. During this time, the telephone system will be unavailable. This outage will affect all regular phones (including Lync/Skype for Business phones) at the univeristy and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Following the upgrade, it is important for owners of voice mailboxes to check for new messages (even if the voicemail indicator light is off) and to verify that all settings, such as call forwarding and speed dial, are accurate.
Please note that all NEC phones will reboot during this upgrade, which will cause phones with attached headsets to deactivate from headset mode. If headsets do not appear to be working, check phone lines to ensure working order and then reactivate the headset button on the phone.
A notification message will be sent to all clinical workstations via the AlertUS system 30 minutes prior to the upgrade. A second message will be sent once the upgrade is complete. Active voice pager messages will be sent to appropriate Clinical Staffing Leader (CSL) groups prior to downtime.
Blue light phones across campus will be included in this outage. VUPD will bolster its presence on campus during this time. In the event of an emergency during the outage, dial 911 on a red phone or use the VandySafe app. The Emergency Red Phone System (Red Phone Directory),designed to provide communication coverage in the event of a phone system outage, will be active and available to any community member needing to use a phone during the upgrade. These red phones are located at strategic sites, including the VUH Emergency Discharge Center and all nurse stations.
