by Aug. 23, 2018, 10:39 AM

The fifth annual Diverse ’Dores Day is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Sarratt Student Center Promenade. This year’s event, “Dores Without Borders,” will provide an opportunity for both new and returning students to learn about some of the identity spaces and support services on Vanderbilt’s campus.

Offices participating in this year’s Diverse ’Dores Day include the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center, the Center for Student Wellbeing, the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Life, the Office of the University Chaplain and Religious Life, the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center, the Project Safe Center for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response, Transition Programs and Inclusion Initiatives and Cultural Competence.

“Diverse ’Dores Day is an annual event on our campus that celebrates our diversity,” said Frank Dobson, associate dean of students for social justice and identity. “Now in its fifth year, Diverse ’Dores Day is a time for students to learn about programs and services in these offices while also enjoying in camaraderie and community.”

This year’s theme, “Dores Without Borders,” speaks to the importance of intersectionality in how Vanderbilt approaches serving students of all backgrounds and identities. Each office will host interactive games and activities centered on this theme and provide students with information on the resources and services they provide.

Free food and music will be available, and t-shirts will be given to students who visit five out of the eight offices represented at Diverse ’Dores Day 2018. Representative from the Office of Inclusive Excellence, the Multicultural Leadership Council and Vanderbilt Athletics also will be on hand to inform students how they can be engaged at Vanderbilt throughout the coming academic year.
