The New York Times: Trailblazing basketball player Perry Wallace dies
Perry Wallace, the first African American varsity basketball player at Vanderbilt University and in the Southeastern Conference, died Friday. Wallace was 69. Wallace’s story was chronicled in the bestselling 2014 book Strong Inside: Perry Wallace and the Collision of Race and Sports in the South, written by fellow Vanderbilt alumnus and author Andrew Maraniss.
