Vanderbilt kicks off Giving Tuesday in style
Tuesday, Nov. 28, is Giving Tuesday. This international philanthropic event following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday is an annual opportunity to give back.
This year, Vanderbilt University has stepped up its celebration. We will send a pair of limited-edition Vanderbilt socks to alumni and friends who make a gift of $35 or more to any area at Vanderbilt as our way of saying thanks.
“There is a strong bond within the Vanderbilt community. So many of our alumni and friends are passionate about ‘paying it forward’ so that current and future students—many of whom wouldn’t be able to attend without financial assistance—receive the collaborative experience that advances our mission to educate the next generation of leaders,” Kyle McGowan, assistant vice chancellor for annual giving, said. “We’re truly grateful for such wholehearted support on Giving Tuesday.”
In 2016, Giving Tuesday helped to raise funds that were immediately available to provide things like scholarships, state-of-the art resources and programming outside the classrooms and labs in Vanderbilt’s living-learning residence halls.
The Giving Tuesday movement is now in its sixth year and recognized in more than 70 countries. The day is fueled by social media, and the Vanderbilt community can join the conversation by posting with #vuheartandsole and #GivingTuesday and by sharing stories about the importance of supporting Vanderbilt.
