Nora Tyson, BA’79, the 2012 Vanderbilt University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumna, has enjoyed a career highlighted by firsts.
She was the first woman to ever command an American carrier strike group. The first woman to command the forward deployed Singapore-based Task Force 73. The first woman to command a battle fleet. The first woman to navigate the flattop Enterprise.
As of Oct. 1, she officially will be retired from her remarkable career with the U.S. Navy.
