September is recognized as National Preparedness Month, which serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare—now and throughout the year—for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we work and live. Watch for a series of stories about emergency preparedness in MyVU during the month of September.
Vanderbilt will conduct a test of its AlertVU emergency notification system on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m.
AlertVU sends emergency messages in the event of an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community, such as a tornado forecasted to strike Vanderbilt or an active shooter on campus.
AlertVU rapidly disseminates emergency alerts to the delivery points in its database. All Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in the system using their Vanderbilt email address.
Faculty and staff can register other contact points—such as their cell/home phone, text messaging*, or personal email account—to receive AlertVU messages when they are away from their Vanderbilt email accounts.
All persons are encouraged to update their emergency contact information at least annually. To update your contact information, proceed to the AlertVU homepage and choose the designated portal.
