Patients with blood disorders invited to free June 24 seminar

Patients with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and other blood disorders are invited to a free seminar featuring a Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinician and other medical experts.

Patients with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and other blood disorders are invited to a free seminar featuring a Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinician and other medical experts.

The free event will be Saturday, June 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs, 700 Cool Springs Blvd. Family members, caregivers, and other health care professionals also are invited to attend the informational event.

Presenters include Michael Byrne, assistant professor of medicine at VUMC, who will discuss MDS, acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs); Kathleen Weis, CEO of the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation; Dr. Ulrike Reiss, director of the Clinical Hematology Division of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Dr. Jack Erter, Department of Medical Oncology at Tennessee Oncology; and Paul Scribner, senior director of patient advocacy for the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation.

A free social event is planned for Friday, June 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Stave Restaurant inside the hotel.
