Adult Summer Chamber Music Institute applications due June 2

(Vanderbilt University)

Adult amateur string players are invited to the Blair School of Music for the Adult Summer Chamber Music Institute, June 22-25. Applications are due June 2 for the four-day institute.

Resident faculty will include:

  • Stephen Miahky, Joseph Joachim Professor of Violin at Vanderbilt and first violin of the Blair String Quartet. He has garnered acclaim for his performances as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. Miahky spends much of the summer as a resident artist at the Walla Walla (Washington) Chamber Music Festival and teaching at the Montecito International Music Festival in Riverside, California.
  • Jessica Blackwell, adjunct artist teacher of violin at Vanderbilt, concertmaster for the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and the Nashville Philharmonic, and violinist in the Nashville Symphony. Passionate about music education, Blackwell is active in the Nashville Symphony’s Community Engagement programs.
  • Sari DeLeon-Reist, adjunct artist teacher of cello at Vanderbilt, cellist with the Nashville Opera Orchestra and a regular substitute with the Nashville Symphony. She also has been a soloist with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra and the Nexus Chamber Orchestra. In the popular music realm, she can be heard on the recordings of Lady Antebellum, Kings of Leon, Faith Hill, Ben Folds, Carrie Underwood and many others.

The daily schedule for the institute will include plenary sessions on music making, chamber group coaching and rehearsals, instrument technique sessions, and concerts.

“Playing in a small chamber group with others at a similar level of experience is incredibly enriching and rewarding,” Pamela Schneller, associate dean of the Adult and Precollege Program at Blair said. “I heartily encourage amateur string players at all levels to join us.”
