VUMC taking part in full-scale disaster drill Thursday, March 23

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) will join several other hospitals and federal, state and local agencies for a full-scale weather-related disaster drill on Thursday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) will join several other hospitals and federal, state and local agencies for a full-scale weather-related disaster drill on Thursday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The scenario will be a major tornado event, and dozens of “victims” will be transported to VUMC during the state-sponsored disaster drill.

Vanderbilt departments participating include the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments, Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Nursing Services, LifeFlight, Vanderbilt University Police Department, Traffic and Parking, Guest Services, Pharmacy, Laboratory Services, Patient Transport, Radiology and Radiological Sciences and VUMC Emergency Preparedness and Response.

Other participants in the drill include the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Davidson County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Regional Medical Communications Center Davidson/MidCumberland (RMCC), Metro Nashville Police Department, Nashville Fire Department and 27 other health care facilities across the state.

The drill is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, and VUMC’s Emergency Operations Center will be open. For more information, call 615-343-3189.
