As fulfillment of the founding mission of the Blair School of Music, the precollege program provides superior musical training to its students while they in turn contribute to the musical culture of the Vanderbilt community and the Nashville area. To help young musicians who qualify, Blair offers merit and need-based scholarships by audition to students in grades 1 through 12. More than 200 students received scholarships in 2016-17 for lessons in voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and folk instruments.
Private lessons for young students in all orchestral and folk instruments are taught by Blair’s nationally recognized faculty, and precollege students consistently perform well in local, regional and national competitions.
The scholarship application deadline is March 13. Auditions are held by appointment in March and April based on the following schedule:
- Brass: March 18
- Strings: April 1
- Woodwinds: April 1
- Piano: Grades 8-12 (rising): April 1
