TechShare discusses off-site data center, IT service management

Vice Chancellor for Information Technology John Lutz (Vanderbilt University)

On Feb. 6, the Transition Management Office (TMO) hosted its second TechShare with a focus on changes to an off-site data center, IT service management and identity management. Vice Chancellor John Lutz welcomed approximately 100 participants from both the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and university communities to learn more about key IT post-reorganization changes.

In early November, the TMO launched the TechShare series of roadshows as part of its effort to effectively drive change as the medical center and the university solidify themselves as distinct entities. The series features subject-matter experts who offer deeper dives into upcoming changes to Vanderbilt’s IT systems and infrastructure. Each TechShare focuses on different projects and provides insight into their progress.

The first TechShare included updates on the directory services and data network projects. The next TMO TechShare will take place this summer and will focus on VUMC unified communications, VUMC email, data center realignment and voice network. Following each event, the team will upload a recording of the event to the TMO’s communications page.

Vanderbilt IT and VUMC IT formed the Transition Management Office to manage several major IT transition projects encompassing such systems and infrastructure as email, directory services, data network, voice network and identity management, among others. This office is responsible for pursuing comprehensive program management in order to reduce risk and successfully execute projects by guiding project planning, managing project dependencies, identifying and mitigating resource constraints, and elevating project risks and conflicts for resolution through structured governance.
