Annual conflict of interest disclosure process begins March 1

V-acorn-logoThe Office of Conflict of Interest and Commitment Management will launch the FY2017 conflict of interest disclosure process March 1. All faculty and staff are required to complete a conflict of interest disclosure each year, regardless of whether you have changes to report. If you have not completed a new conflict of interest disclosure since June 30, 2016, please log in to the Vanderbilt University conflict reporting system to complete one now.

Conflicts of interest may arise in many situations, and having a conflict of interest is not necessarily a negative thing. The disclosure process is the means by which employees can report any potential conflicts to ensure that an appropriate management plan is in place, if necessary.

Some of the most common conflict of interest situations involve employment outside of the university, family members working together, and business relationships with the university. It is important to read each question during the disclosure process to ensure the proper and complete disclosure of all potential conflicts. If new conflicts arise throughout the year, those changes can and should be reported as they arise instead of waiting for the annual disclosure process.

Vanderbilt University requires 100 percent conflict of interest disclosure compliance from all faculty and staff. To that end, the Office of Conflict of Interest and Commitment Management will begin sending reminder emails in early March to all faculty and staff who have not yet completed their disclosure for the current fiscal year.
