Art lovers in Portland recently enjoyed the special opportunity to discuss the work of Andy Warhol with Vivien Fryd, professor of history of art, at a Commodore Classroom held before a tour of the exhibit, Andy Warhol: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.
Fryd, who teaches American art from the colonial period to the present, spent a great deal of time preparing for the lecture to ensure attendees truly appreciate the exhibit. She studied a catalog of the Portland Art Museum show and arrived in town a day early so that she could tour it before the classroom.
The classroom attracted 24 alumni and friends, a great turnout for this city this emerging chapter. “This was our second Commodore Classroom and it was wonderful to have so many people attend,” said volunteer Brooke Taylor, MSN’96. “Professor Fryd’s lecture provided great background on the Andy Warhol exhibit and that really enhanced our tour.”
