university-courses-logoThe deadline for University Courses proposals is Monday, Dec. 12. The University Courses program is open to all Vanderbilt University faculty for courses teaching students in schools and colleges reporting to the provost. Faculty can submit proposals using the online application portal InfoReady. For full eligibility requirements, visit the University Courses website.

The Office of the Provost is also issuing a call for proposals for the Discovery Grants and Research Scholar Grants programs. Faculty may begin applying for those programs on Monday, Dec. 19 via a link that will be posted on the Office of Cross-College Initiatives website. The primary investigator for both Discovery Grants and Research Scholar Grants must be a tenured or tenure-track faculty member in a department reporting to the provost; however, all faculty are eligible to participate in a proposal.

The Discovery Grants program is one of the primary ways Vanderbilt invests in advancing the core disciplines. It is intended to enable investigators to perform key preliminary investigations or studies in new areas of research prior to submitting external grant applications. These grants also support new or existing infrastructure. Based partly on need, proposals must demonstrate a strong potential to attract ongoing external funding. The Discovery Grants program has awarded more than $16.5 million to Vanderbilt researchers since its launch in 1998.

The Research Scholar Grants program provides funding for innovative scholarship and creative expression projects that are unlikely to have extramural funding options available. These awards support humanistic research and efforts that result in the creation of artistic or humanist bodies of work. More than $5 million has been awarded to Vanderbilt researchers under the Research Scholar Grants program since its launch in 2000.
