Flulapalooza 6 will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, and will offer employees, students and volunteers free flu shots. The event will take place in a large tent erected between Light Hall and Veteran’s Administration (VA) Hospital from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event began in 2011 to test Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s emergency mass vaccination plan as if there really were a public health emergency requiring mass vaccination, and to help assure that Vanderbilt protects its faculty, staff, volunteers, students, and thereby its patients, from the flu.
“The response to Flulapalooza continues to be incredibly impressive,” said Melanie Swift, M.D., director of the Occupational Health Clinic. “More than 14,500 Medical Center and University faculty, staff, students and volunteers were vaccinated at last year’s Flulapalooza.
“This is the way our faculty, staff, volunteers and students prefer to get their flu shots each year. We have a lot of excitement about this annual event and it’s an easy and efficient way to mark getting your flu shot off your to-do list. We would love to vaccinate more this year.”
All vaccine types, supply permitting, including Quadrivalent, high dose for people over 65 and egg-free for people with egg allergies will be administered. No Flu Mist will be offered either at the Flulapalooza, OHC clinic or any of OHC onsite due to its low effectiveness.
For maximum efficiency during the Flulapalooza event, please wear short sleeves and present your Vanderbilt ID badge.
If for some reason you can’t attend Flulapalooza, free flu shots will be administered at the Occupational Health Clinic located on the sixth floor Vanderbilt’s Medical Arts and through a wide variety of mobile events, detailed on the OHC website.
