Important Box.com announcements for university users

Vanderbilt IT announces that two new changes are coming for Box.com users:

  1. University users will experience a new look and feel to the log-in interface after Friday, Sept. 23.
  2. Box.com will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 9 and 10 browsers on Monday, Sept. 26.

More information about these changes is detailed below.

On Friday, Sept. 23, VUIT will move the university Box.com’s authentication to Ping. As a result, university users can expect changes to the look and feel of the Box.com log-in interface. All university Box accounts and data will remain intact, and minimal impact is expected.

Additionally, VUMC IT will migrate all Medical Center Box users to a different area of the Box system on Sept. 23. Following this migration, VUMC users will access their Box accounts using vumc.box.com.

On Sept. 26, 2016, Box.com will discontinue support for IE9 and IE10 browsers. Microsoft’s support for these products ended on Jan. 12, 2016, and usage of these browsers poses a security risk. Microsoft now supports Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) on Windows 7 and Windows 8 and supports Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

All IE9 and IE10 users must upgrade to IE11 or an alternative supported browser in order to continue using Box.com after Sept. 26. Alternative browsers include the two latest versions of Chrome and Firefox. Failure to upgrade an unsupported browser will result in an inability to access Box’s web application and receive the latest updates.
