Jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon visits Blair Tuesday for master class and performance

The Nashville Jazz Composers Collective, the Blair School of Music’s professional jazz ensemble in residence, welcomes guest trombonist and composer Wycliffe Gordon, a veteran of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Gordon was voted Downbeat Magazine’s Best Trombonist three years running and is the eight-time winner of Best Trombonist from the Jazz Journalists Association.

Gordon will conduct a master class at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Steve and Judy Turner Recital Hall at Blair. Participation in the class is limited to Blair students, but the public is welcome to attend and observe.

He performs with the Nashville Jazz Composers Collective on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in Ingram Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students with ID, and free for Vanderbilt students with ID.

Parking for this event is available for free in West Garage (2500 Children’s Way) through the Children’s Way entrance.
