A project to install chilled water lines from Vanderbilt’s Power Plant to the new Engineering and Science Building and Olin Hall continues, closing parts of 24th Avenue South as well as Garland Avenue for several weeks this summer.
The portion of 24th Avenue South from Vanderbilt Place to just north of the Vanderbilt Orthopedic Surgery/Free Electron Laser (VOS/FEL) Building will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 11, through mid-July.
In addition, Garland Avenue from 25th Avenue to the entrance of the University Club will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. June 11 and continuing through mid-July to make the necessary mechanical tie-ins to the Engineering and Science and Olin buildings. Access to Parking Lot 40 (University Club) and Lot 16 will be available at all times during the closure.
Bus drivers have been notified of the Garland Avenue closure, and Vanderbilt Orthopedic Surgery staff will inform patients of the detour for both road closures. Signage will be strategically placed directing traffic for these detours.
Parking lots affected by the road closures are handicapped lots 11 and 63, located adjacent to the Office of Religious Life and Featheringill Hall. Temporary handicapped parking will be reassigned to Lot 16, located between the Studio Arts Building and Garland Avenue.
Campus Planning and Construction (CPC) asks that pedestrians walking along 24th Avenue South pay attention to signage that will redirect them. They also ask for the Vanderbilt community’s patience and understanding as traffic patterns and parking will be disrupted while the work is ongoing.
The construction project initially began in March. Roads were re-opened in late April for student reading days, final exams and Commencement activities. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by Aug. 5.
