On Friday, April 15, 2016, at 2:07 a.m., Vanderbilt University Police Department was notified of an attempted robbery that occurred near 25th Avenue South and Jess Neely. A Vanderbilt student was walking south on 25th Avenue South when a white sedan with multiple occupants stopped in the roadway. An individual exited the vehicle, demanded money and valuables and threatened to, but did not, pull a gun. The student continued walking and the individual returned to the vehicle. The vehicle then left the area headed south towards Blakemore Avenue. The Vanderbilt Police Department is investigating the incident.
The vehicle appears to be a 2000’s model Ford Crown Victoria with black rims. The individual was described as an African American male, mid to late 20’s, approximately 5’10”, thin build, hair near shoulders, wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and dark colored baggy pants.
Risk Reduction Tips:
- Avoid isolated or dark areas
- If a stranger does approach, maintain a distance and be observant; if they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number.
- Stay alert — If you feel uneasy, leave the area. Go to a safe location and notify VUPD.
- Report any suspicious persons to VUPD. Be prepared to describe the person as best as you can.
