Compressor problem at Hill Center causes outages; service restored

A problem with the data center temperature control system at the Hill Center caused a widespread outage of administrative systems early Monday morning. The incident, which began at about 3 a.m., impacted Vanderbilt websites, some applications, email, Lync telephones and the Medical Center’s StarPanel. Most of the systems were back online before 7 a.m. Both the university and the Medical Center activated their respective Emergency Operation Centers and coordinated with primary customers to keep them informed.

A compressor used in connection with the cooling system caused the problem, Johnny Vanderpool, emergency preparedness manager for Vanderbilt University Police Department, said. The data center was brought back online after disconnecting the problem system and verifying the operational status of the remaining systems. A substantial number of staff from both Vanderbilt IT and HealthIT were mobilized to return systems to normal operation.

If you are still experiencing outages, please contact your IT Help Desk or your local support provider.
