Sarratt Art Studios has planned a full lineup of exciting studio art programs and classes for all ages this summer.
The popular annual Sarratt Youth Art Institute offers a series of one-week art programs for children ages 5 to 16, segmented by age groups, beginning the week of May 30 and running through the end of July. This year’s institute will include a special focus on an exhibit of sculptural basket forms, often incorporating found objects from nature, created by artist Mary Hettmansperger. Along with drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, pottery, jewelry making and other creative activities, the children will learn to create their own baskets. The institute runs each week Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and an early bird discount is available through April 1. More information and a full schedule can be found here.
Adults 18 and older can enjoy the fun, too, by attending Sarratt’s first-ever Art Camp for Adults the week of May 16–20. Sarratt Art Studios has selected a few of its favorite classes for this weeklong “crash course” in pottery, photography, printmaking and other arts.
Adults also may participate in one of the pottery or metalsmithing classes (beginners or advanced) offered one night per week during the summer beginning May 24. Take time to explore creativity, gain new skills and make new friends.
All classes and programs are taught by some of the best studio artists in the Nashville area and take place at Sarratt Student Center. Classes are noncredit, open to the Vanderbilt and greater Nashville community, and are great for beginners. Visit the Sarratt Art Studios website for full details and schedules.
