Vanderbilt University IT (VUIT) and Health IT have partnered with the Center for Medical Interoperability to deliver improved, more reliable wireless connectivity for clinical devices throughout Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 
This work will be completed over the next several months and when finished will increase network coverage, reliability and reduce wireless interference hospital-wide.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18, VUIT will secure the guest network, vummiv, and add a wireless acceptance (splash) page. Guest users will be required to accept the terms and conditions of use before network access is permitted.
It is essential that all faculty, staff and students use the appropriate wireless network (vuNet) before the vummiv network is secured. Using vuNet instead of vummiv ensures access to necessary applications and increases security for sensitive information. Anyone still using vummiv as their wireless connection should visit the Vanderbilt IT webpage, follow the instructions and begin using vuNet for wireless connectivity.
“These efforts are the first steps on the road to establish a state-of-the-art wireless infrastructure that we refer to as Medical Grade Wireless. A highly reliable and robust wireless network is mandatory now that mobile devices have become an essential part of clinical care processes throughout VUMC,” said Neal Patel, M.D., MPH, chief medical information officer and professor of Pediatrics.
