An in-depth exploration of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed Clean Power Plan to significantly reduce carbon emissions from power plants is the topic of a two-day conference being held May 18-19 at Vanderbilt University Law School.
The event, “The Clean Power Plan: Health, Energy Demand and Economic Effects,” is free and open to the public. Registration is requested and space is limited. At the event, policymakers, scholars and practitioners from several disciplines will explore different perspectives on the health, energy demand and economic effects of the EPA’s proposed Clean Power Plan, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent over 2005 levels over the next 15 years to address climate change and protect human health. Speakers will include:
- Bob Martineau, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and president of the Environmental Council of the States;
- Dian Grueneich, Precourt Institute, Stanford University, California Public Utility commissioner, emeritus;
- Brenda Brickhouse, vice president of environment and energy policy, Tennessee Valley Authority; and
- Scott Henneberry, vice president of Smart Grid Strategy, Schneider Electric.
The event is being hosted by Vanderbilt Law School and the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. It is sponsored by Vanderbilt Law School, Vanderbilt School of Medicine, the Climate Change Research Network, Vanderbilt Institute for Energy and the Environment, SRW & Associates and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.
