National Academies of Practice honors VUSN’s Kim, Parish

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty members Jennifer Kim, DNP, and Abby Parish, DNP, were recently elected as Distinguished Practitioners and Fellows of the National Academies of Practice (NAP).

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty members Jennifer Kim, DNP, and Abby Parish, DNP, were recently elected as Distinguished Practitioners and Fellows of the National Academies of Practice (NAP).

Each was selected in recognition of their leadership in Advanced Practice Nursing and as individuals who possess the qualities that will help lead the future of the organization. They will be formally inducted into the academy at the annual meeting in April.

Jennifer Kim, DNP

Kim is a certified gerontological nurse practitioner who has been a faculty member in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at VUSN since 2002. She practices at a long-term care facility in Nashville and has been a key member of the Meharry Consortium on Geriatric Education Center and the Council of Aging of Greater Nashville. She has been recognized nationally as a Hartford Institute Primary Care for Older Adult Scholar and Jonas Leadership Scholar.

Abby Parish, DNP

Parish teaches in the School of Nursing’s Master of the Science of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. She practices in long-term care and has served as president of the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association. She was the recipient of the Music City March of Dimes Graduate Nurse Educator of the Year in 2013.

The NAP is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981 to advise governmental bodies on the nation’s health care system. Membership is comprised of practitioners and scholars from 14 different health professions dedicated to supporting affordable, accessible and coordinated health care.
