Registration for summer SAVY sessions begins Dec. 9

Summer Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young (Vanderbilt University)

The Summer Academy at Vanderbilt for the Young (SAVY) provides a dynamic, fast-paced curriculum experience to qualifying gifted children in rising first–seventh grades. Vanderbilt professors, master teachers and graduate students offer accelerated SAVY courses that cover a wide variety of topics.

Who?

Gifted students entering grades 1–7 in fall 2015, specifically students who test at the 95th percentile and above on a standardized achievement or ability tests.

What?

Small classes designed for the exceptionally talented and motivated learner. Class size is limited to approximately 12 students for grade 1–3 classes, and approximately 15 students for grades 4–7. Courses are taught by Vanderbilt scholars and master teachers. Some summer course offerings include Creative Writing, Genetics, Cultural Anthropology, Algebra and Neuroscience.

When?

Session 1: June 8–12, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday

Session 2: June 15–19, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday

Session 3: June 22–26, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday

Session 4: July 6–17, weekdays; full day 9 a.m.–4 p.m.; morning session only 9 a.m.–11:45 a.m.; afternoon session only 12:30 p.m.–3:45 p.m.

Session 5: July 20–24, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday

Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 5: Students choose one course for the entire weeklong session.

Grades 1–3: Students will enroll in a course that meets during the morning, while in the afternoon, students will participate in stimulating enrichment classes. Upon admission to Summer SAVY, students will receive more information about their enrichment classes.

Grades 4–7: Students will gain experience in a pre-college learning environment by participating in an academic course taught by leading educators and Vanderbilt faculty. These are full-day courses that provide an in-depth look into a discipline and expose students to the habits of scholars.

Session 4: Students may enroll in the morning course, the afternoon course, or both courses. Each course lasts the entire two weeks.

Students may choose to come to multiple SAVY sessions and take a different course each session.

Where?

All SAVY classes are held on Vanderbilt’s Peabody Campus.
