Faculty Senate meeting minutes for October 2014 available online

(Daniel Dubois/Vanderbilt)

Minutes from the Vanderbilt Faculty Senate’s Oct. 9 meeting are now available online on the Faculty Senate website. (Meeting minutes are published approximately one month after the senate convenes.)

At the Oct. 9 meeting, Chair Paul Lim gave the report of the senate’s Executive Committee. Topics the Executive Committee is currently exploring include power-based personal violence training among the university community; the internationalization and globalization of Vanderbilt; graduate education; Benefits Committee deliberations; the possibility of extending the tuition reduction benefit to faculty and staff with children who have educational challenges or participate in nontraditional post-secondary education programs; Vanderbilt Athletics and its future; and archiving the senate’s committee reports going forward in an effort to achieve greater transparency and a more complete historical record.

Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos gave general remarks on Vanderbilt alumni involvement, faculty training on power-based personal violence, and The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons experience for first-year students.

Frank Wcislo, dean of The Ingram Commons, gave an overview of the first-year living and learning community and discussed its progress. He also took questions from the senate.

Anita Jenious, director of Vanderbilt’s Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action and Disability Services office, presented training to faculty on power-based personal violence and Title IX reporting obligations. She took questions, and the senators engaged in a vigorous discussion.

A motion was made by senators Brian Heuser and Myrna Wooders suggesting that senate committee reports be archived. After a brief discussion, the motion passed.
