The work of the search committee appointed by Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan Wente to identify the next dean of the College and Arts and Science is underway. Vice Provost for Academic and Strategic Affairs John Geer is chair of the committee. Following a request for proposals, the committee retained the services of executive search firm Spencer Stuart.
Consultants from Spencer Stuart were on campus Sept. 18 and 19 to meet with the search committee, Interim Dean John Sloop, faculty, program directors, department chairs, graduate students, undergraduates, Arts and Science associate deans and administrators and staff. By the end of those two days, they had interviewed nearly 100 people regarding the core values, personal qualities, skills and experiences needed in the next dean.
That information will now be used to shape the job description for a new dean, which will be posted soon with recruitment soon to follow. Names of potential candidates and any questions should be submitted to artsandsciencedeansearch@vanderbilt.edu.
