Geriatric nursing association honors VUSN’s Kim

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s Jennifer Kim, MSN, received the 2014 Excellence in Leadership award from the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association at the group’s recent national conference in Orlando, Florida.

The award is given to annually to someone who demonstrates a commitment to geriatrics, through direct care, education and research, and who advocates for geriatric education.
“Jenny is the ideal mix of talented practitioner, curious nurse scholar and community advocate. She leads by example, inspiring her colleagues and students alike,” said Linda Norman, DSN, R.N., Valere Potter Menefee Professor of Nursing and dean of VUSN. “She is very deserving of this award.”

Kim has been a certified gerontological nurse practitioner since 1997 and has coordinated geriatric nursing courses for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care program since 2002.
She founded Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses of Middle Tennessee in 2010 and has been an active member of the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville, a faculty contributor in the Meharry Geriatric Education Center and a contributor to improving the health of the Nashville senior community.

She is a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar (2012-2014) and a Hartford Institute Primary Care of the Older Adult Scholar (2012-2014).
VUSN was recently named a National Hartford Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence.
