Vanderbilt international students and scholars and their family members got an up-close look at Commodore football Aug. 25 during “Football 101.”
The event, hosted by the football team and International Student and Scholar Services, is designed to familiarize members of Vanderbilt’s international community with American football. More than 60 students and scholars toured the McGugin Center and the football team’s practice facilities, traveled the Star Walk and stepped onto Dudley Field, just as the players do.

Students and scholars heard about football basics from head coach Derek Mason as well as assistant coaches, and learned the VU hand sign and cheer.
The Commodores open their season Aug. 28 against Temple. Kickoff at Vanderbilt Stadium is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. The game will be televised live on the SEC Network.
