Watch the 2014 Game Plan video “Manage your Energy, Maximize your Life.” In the video, John Cleek, medical director, and Mike Wigger, exercise physiologist, from the Vanderbilt Center for Medical Weight Loss explain that physical energy means our body has the ability to get up, move and do.
Activate your body:
- Eat right: Enjoy a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy. ChooseMyPlate offers healthy recipes, healthy eating on a budget and more.
- Sleep well: The general recommendation is for adults to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. The National Sleep Foundation offers tips to help you sleep better. Start by making sleep a priority.
- Get active: The CDC recommends that adults get 150 minutes of physical activity per week. Start by integrating small amounts of activity into your day. Take the stairs, skip the shuttle or go for a walk. Use the Start! physical activity tracker to log your activity.
Our health, well-being and productivity depend on our ability to manage our energy. You can learn to manage your energy to maximize your life.
