Minutes from the Vanderbilt Faculty Senate’s Dec. 5 and Feb. 13 meetings are now available online on the Faculty Senate website. (The January 2014 meeting was for elected senators only, and no minutes were taken.)
For the December meeting, Vice Provost for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions Doug Christiansen was invited to discuss the admissions process as it relates to athletics. It was reported that the senate’s Executive Committee also has explored the role of faculty representatives to the NCAA.
In addition, senators Mike Mihalik, Joel Tellinghuisen and Myrna Wooders submitted a motion that the Faculty Senate recommend that academic year faculty be allowed to choose between a nine-month and 12-month salary schedule, and that this choice be extended to all new and current academic year faculty. After a period of discussion, Faculty Senate Chair Donald Brady moved that discussion on the issue be continued at the February senate meeting.

Susan Wente and John Geer, co-chairs of the ongoing Strategic Planning process, gave a presentation to update the senate on their progress.
And discussion continued on the open question from the December meeting about whether the Faculty Senate should recommend allowing academic year faculty to choose between a nine-month and 12-month salary schedule. Following discussion, the motion was put to a vote, which did not pass.
